As the first snow falls on a post-oil-rush North Dakotan town, a dead body in a barren creek stirs up past dirty deeds. There to investigate the execution style murder is James Setter (40's), a misanthropic and divorced detective still mourning the senseless loss of his young daughter. Across town, Duncan Randall (40's), strong and silent, receives word that an old running mate was executed. Setter and Duncan, passing each other at the widow's house, don't yet realize how intertwined their pasts and futures are. Duncan's old crew and his wayward, loose cannon-of-a-brother Ty (30's), gather at the funeral to ponder if and why they are being targeted. He is propelled into action when his own violent past catches up to him and his daughter is severely injured during a home invasion aimed at him. Setter's investigation leads him closer to Duncan's crew and tension mounts as he digs deeper into the case, but he is unceremoniously put off it by Ben (70's), the Chief of Police. Setter, still...
