A bunch of friends have gathered in country house of Juris to celebrate his birthday. Juros goes down to cellar to fetch some raspberry wine and doesn't come back - he meets his murderer there. Girts, a friend of Juris, who happens to be a police investigator takes up the task of finding out who is to blame for the death of Juris. The film is structured in according to traditions of classic crime fiction (group of people looking for the culprit in sequestered place) with a little touch of mysticism. Principles of social realism did not allow even bigger dose of mysticism - it was intended to resurrect Juris and let him act as observer during the investigation. However, Arvīds Krievs had to kill Juris for good in order to gain the permission for release.
