Raul and Stella are separated when Raul decides to exile himself after he accidentally kills Fernan, a gambling lord, whom his father is indebted to. Stella can not come with him because of her ailing mother who does not approve of their relationship. Raul writes letters to Stella with a promise to reunite but it is not received by her. In a twist of fate, both find themselves under the care of Jaime, a syndicate leader. He is the bodyguard and she is the wife.
