Directed by the legendary Ken Loach (Kes, The Wind That Shakes The Barley) and cinematography by the oscar nominated Barry Ackroyd(The Hurt Locker and United 93) It tells the story of theDarlaston West Midlands-based Young Foundry theatre group members Stephen Page, Paul Harper, Jimmy Dunn,Chris Dunn, Caroline White and Roy Stokes who act out a series of scenes reflecting their past, unemployment, homelessness and drug abuse that is rife in the local area. Theatre director Simon Lanzon is seen occasionally, but Loach concentrates on the youthful members of the group, rather than any other controlling influences, and this, alongside the music of anarchist band Chumbawumba, gives the film a very raw feel. Filmed in 1987-88 it was broadcast as part of 'The Eleventh Hour' series on Channel 4. It was premiered at The Cork Film festival in 88 and screened at Cannes as part of the Ken Loach retrospective.
