Froso 'the dreamer', as they call her in Argostoli, lives in the country house of the De la Freta family, along with a crazy artist, Giannakis, and a crabby bachelor, Vasilakis, both relatives of Mrs. Marieta. Froso is in love with Mr. Panagis, Marieta's nephew, but her mother, who isn't aware of her feelings, wants to see her married to wealthy captain Nikolas. The matchmaking works, and the good-hearted, loving captain does everything possible to please Froso. He wants his wife to be happy, and Froso, confronted by his vast kindness - in contrast to the cowardice and hypocrisy of Mr. Panagis - gladly accepts his proposal.
