Postman Antonis with Froso, his grumpy wife and his daughter Toula live in a house with a yard in the district of Plaka, Athens. The same yard share Giagos, a young man who has an affair with Toula, and sensational Eva who, after two marriages, is on the lookout for a third one to save her face and provide coverage for her rich lover that calls on her in the guise of the "Uncle". The mosaic of these diverse individuals suitably complements Katina, the landlady of the rooms that open out onto the yard, who also acts as a go-between in the seduction of poor girls. In her latter capacity, she has undertaken to "sell" Toula to bourgeois Giavrousis and marry Eva to Giagos.
