The film is loosely based on the eassay The Death of the Author by Roland Barthes, in which he states that the author as an individual is inconsequential to the understanding of a work. "The text is a tissue of quotations drawn from innumerable centres of culture....a text's unity lies not in its origin, but in its destination." We have attemptedto elucidate and expand on some of these ideas in the film, using great artistic licence since the subject matter allows for some considerable plagiarism.
