Communication within families is often difficult - but what if you don't even speak their language? How far is it possible - and ethical - to go to discover your relatives' innermost values? The actress Sonchai Körner has a Thai mother who died when she was three, and a German father who brought them to Germany three months after Sonchai's birth. After a series of frustrating attempts to seek explanations for things, events and behaviors within her mother's side of the family Sonchai confronted her relatives with a fixed list of questions designed to enable her to discover as much as possible about them. Through this series of life stories, the film delivers fascinating insights into Thailand's underlying social conflicts, the traditional family hierarchies currently being overturned and the fragility of a nation facing an uncertain future.
