2020年华沙电影节纪录片竞赛 Taxidermy is a controversial and mysterious profession. Today it has little in common with “stuffing animals”. It is a true art with a mission. Maurizio, Robert and Christophe are world-famous taxidermists. They work at the natural history museums of Rome, Berlin and Brussels. Their work serves to recreate the illusion of that very same life that had been destroyed by other human hands. They remind us that thousands of animal species are threatened with extinction, and we are the ones who can prevent it. The documentary follows their preparations for the European Taxidermy Championship 2018, the biggest event of the industry. For Maurizio it’s the final championship before retirement, Christophe is taking part for the first time, while for Robert the title of European Champion is all that's missing from his collection of international awards. “As humans, we think we are in charge and in domination of the planet. But the more we challenge the ecosystem, the more threats arise from nature. The more we find out that we are not the masters of the world, the more we discover that we are animals among other species, to finally be aware that our fate is tied together”. – Davide Gambino
