In the early Edo period (17th century) Monkey is a former ninja who lives with his wife and four children in a forest that separates two clans. He’s been out of work since the clans came to peace, and his wife now provides the family’s lifeline – she’s a renowned ninja who services are in demand from clans far away. One day a strange old man wanders into the area. Monkey’s children rescue him from Goblin, a sniper who shoots intruders from atop the neighboring Hageyama Ridge. The old man's unable to remember who he is or why he’s there, so Monkey and his family decide to return him to his family. The old man turns out to be the former samurai lord of a neighboring clan. His men have revolted, his family have been killed, and he’s now wanted dead or alive. With bounty hunters on their tail, Monkey’s family flee with him through the forest, and have no choice but to go over Hageyama Ridge. Stuck between Goblin and mercenaries, what lies at the end of this perilous path for Monkey and his family?
